The Real Vampire Conspiracy

Golden touches on the ridiculousness of how vampires are portrayed in books and films nowadays. The perfect bad boy – with a heart as soft as my pillow – yeah right! No such thing. Every girl and woman ever scorched by a true bad boy knows the truth. Being bad takes its toll and the psyche, you can’t be an ass with a heart of gold, so you can’t be a blood hungry monster with a weakness for love. The two things do not go together, no matter how romantic they may seem. The most believable storyline is Buffy’s where the vampires soul is restored by magic. That kind of makes sense, ┬áthe rest of the vampires are just plain wicked, just the one cursed (undoubtedly brooding and gorgeous dude) Vampire with a soppy heart.

Golden turns everything we know about vampires upside down. What if Vampires were never blood sucking monsters to begin with? What if they were our one and only defense against demons and chaos taking over? But gossip, stories, media and the fear of the unknown has woven them into the bad guys and accepted humanity as flawed. Every gruesome crime committed is taken for granted to be the work of some deranged individual, demons and the power they wield over their hosts forgotten over the milinia. But what if every bloody crime, every terrorist attack and all wars were instigated by the demons living invisibly amoungst us? And the only ones who can save us have been pushed into the background, forgotten about and turned into caricatures of themselves through comics and films. You of course could not fully get away with it, hiding in plain sight between humans trying to protect them as best as you could. You would not be able to get away with it, and here comes the biggest conspiracy of all. Our soldiers, our police force, our govenours, mayors and president. They know. They work along side the Vampires of old, the Golden ones, to protect humanity with all its flaws from the demons within.

This week, for fun I am going to compose a list of actual factual vampire lores, stories and snippets to showcase how time, stories and old wife tales have formed our views of what vampires are today.garlic1

Medical ailments can mimic symptoms of vampirism. For example, haematodipsia is a sexual thirst for blood, and hemeralopia is day blindness. Porphyria causes sensitivity to light and teeth that are stained reddish brown.

Very excited to be contacted today by Mathew from Wildsound who let me know they have published my logline! How awesome is that?

You can view it below on their official website:

Logline:

Title: Golden

Written by: Kathryn Robson

Type: Novel

Genre: Supernatural Mystery

Logline: When you are Golden, in darkness you must stand strong and the line between Beast and Saviour is so thin, until you are marked the whole world holds its breath.

I know I know, overexcited much? But isn’t it all just brilliant fun?

Now some of you may rightfully ask: Logline? Whats that when its not a huntsman standing in a que for some logs for his campfire? What has it got to do with writing and publishing a novel and why have we never heard of it before?

All good questions, and like everything nowadays they are only a couple of clicks on the keyboard and a google away! And to think when I was 16 there was no google, and no, I am not 102 years old, only 35! Already I have seen such amazing advances in technology, its mindboggling, but enough of that, this post is about loglines, not science – its so easy to get sidetracked.

A logline is a one-sentence summary of your script. It’s the short blurb in TV guides that tells you what a movie is about and helps you decide if you’re interested in seeing it. It’s the grabber that excites your interest.

Again you ask, what has that got to do with books? Well, everything really! All good films start out as a book, even when they are not actually a published novel, but a screenplay, it is still a written work, witch an Author has poured countless hours of work into. Books are often used as basis in films, and directors and film companies are always always looking for new stories and ideas. Consumers are greedy, they gobble films and series up in astounding speeds, the industry struggles to keep up.

So they often turn to Authors and books. A author submits a Logline, and if it grabs somebodies interest, who knows where it could lead to. Hopefully more publicity for Golden! Don’t get me wrong, a good film or series based on my book is too far in the stars to even think of, my main passion is still my story of Amy and Daniel, and I dream on and on of where their story will take them next, probably not Holywood, but a published Logline is a good place to start and I am incredibly chuffed tonight.

My Job, My Children and School Holidays

As a parent (sorry all none parents) do you love or hate, look forward to or dread SCHOOL HOLIDAYS?

I’m all of the above, and with the Christmas ones now a few weeks behind us and half term, Easter and half term looming in front of us, its a good topic to work through – or so I thought.

By trade, I am not an Author only. My main income and full time job is running my clothes stores. So I have two full time jobs. My new Author status came along with all sorts of extra duties I never anticipated like, for example, running a blog. Until I wrote Golden, I never had two minutes spare to ever follow or read a blog, let alone write one. Then you have Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date, new and exciting people to talk to… the list goes on. Its a whole new amazing world, but very time consuming.

And then comes my hobby, we breed dogs, and puppies are a lot of work.

So where does my family, my husband and children fit into my 16 hour days? They wiggle themselves in around the edges and on any average day I feel overwhelmed by guilt at not having enough time for them.

So to the holidays, disaster ! Now I don’t have holidays, so I am at work. But, mostly I work from home, so I am here, with the children and the dogs, working and ignoring them as best as I can to get any work done. It is wretched, I hate it. But not because my kids are in my way, but because I feel so guilty at not being able to give them all my 100% undivided attention at all times. I try, I scramble and stress myself out, every single day trying to be the best working mum I can, but is it enough?

For that reason I love Christmas. We close our shops for two weeks, I lock my Laptop away and my phone is turned oFf and I just hang out with the kids. For two whole weeks.

And I wonder, on their first day back at school, why I work so hard the other 50 weeks a year. Why do I not cut back my hours, work less, spend more time with my beautiful boys and give myself a break?

So every year, my New Years Resolution, after two weeks of being offline is that I will not get sucked back into my work-hole. That I will not let it be all consuming and on my mind 24/7.

And, like all New Years resolutions in the history of New Years resolutions it lasts about a week before I am back in the zone again, counting the days to the Christmas holiday, wishing I was a stay at home mum with not a money worry in the world.
